Norman & the Rockwells were a new wavish bar band from Omaha Nebraska. Yeah. I know, that's what I thought too. But I just can't resist a single with a contemporary Ronald Reagan song. (though sadly it's probably the weakest cut on this Ep) If you're interested in the further musical exploits of the bass player, his info is here.
What we do end up with is a four song Elongated Play seven inch that seems to come from the same headspace as say, Tin Huey. They're jazz influenced players with chops. They know some Zappa, they like Blue Oyster Cult, perhaps and when they get sick of playing in cover bands they like to let their hair down and make this odd racket.
For my money the winner here is "Just a Kid" with it's short little punk rock burst in the middle bridge. It's an odd duck for sure.

the German Shepherds formed in San Francisco. (Mutant Sounds has the other two recordings and a little history that I won't bother paraphrasing. You can read it there.)
Say you're sitting at home minding your own business, just idly whiling away the hours whittling a replica of the Lincoln Memorial out of ham and for some unknown reason you get the Meow Mix jingle stuck in your head. You're concentrating deeply on shaping the delicate nasal bridge of Lincoln's tiny head in pork and your brain is all "meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow..." The German Shepherds have a sure fire scorched earth cranial cleansing method meant to sear the offending jingle into a charred shadow on the inside of your skull and leave a pounding headache in its place.
You'll thank me later.

And as an added bonus here's an instrumental flute/horn rock version of a Led Zeppelin song by C.C.S. perfect for those quiet romantic evenings with the one you love when only Flute Rock will put her or him in the mood.
